Physical Landscapes: Vessels for Cultural Resilience

Feb. 2026 – Apr. 2026

Role: Researcher · Period: Feb. 2026 – Apr. 2026 · Programme: AP Seminar

This AP Seminar project investigated how physical landscapes — monuments, public buildings, and everyday architecture — shape cultural identity and contribute to community resilience.

  • Literature base. Reviewed 20+ papers on monuments and everyday architecture, drawing on cultural, social, and spatial perspectives rather than a single disciplinary lens.
  • Central question. How do built environments carry and transmit cultural memory, and what makes some landscapes help communities recover from disruption while others do not?
  • Synthesis. Wrote and presented a paper integrating cultural, social, and spatial perspectives, arguing that physical landscapes should be read as active vessels for cultural continuity rather than neutral backdrops.

The project pushed me to work across the humanities and social sciences at the same time — a useful counterweight to my STEM-heavy research work.
