Chasing Goals
The rhythm of school life often feels like a relentless sprint. With assignments piling up and deadlines looming, there’s a constant race against time. This pace has meant sacrificing hours once dedicated to my enduring passion: soccer. Over the past year, I’ve felt like I’m in a game, juggling multiple tasks and striving to strike a balance between duty and desire.
The demands of high school consume most of my waking hours, but determination has pushed me to find pockets of time for soccer. Efficiency has become my mantra; lunch breaks transform into brief homework sessions, and multitasking has turned into an essential skill. There are days when I can’t indulge in the luxury of watching a full soccer match. So, my parents and I devised a system: watching just one half and dedicating the rest of the time to academics. This approach has taught me it’s not about having time but making time.
After the pandemic, the soccer field became a place of solace for me. Returning to school after months at home, I walked across the field, reflecting on past events and adapting to the new changes. Many evenings, after finishing the day’s assignments, I couldn’t spare even thirty minutes for soccer. I pondered the accelerated pace of life post-pandemic and the precious moments I had to squeeze in. Those months underscored the importance of seizing opportunities when they present themselves.
With the pandemic behind us, I traveled outside my country for the first time in three years. Amidst a slew of courses and commitments, I stood in London’s iconic Emirates Stadium. Sitting there, overlooking the vast soccer field, a wave of serenity enveloped me. The setting was not just about the sport; it was a poignant reminder of the balance I aim for every day.
Reflecting on the tug-of-war between school and soccer, I often consider their combined impact on my life. Do I get weary? Absolutely. But life extends beyond textbook knowledge, and soccer offers more than brief moments of excitement. The central circle on the field seemed to mirror my sentiments, symbolizing harmony, and purpose. It captures my journey toward balance and self-understanding, pointing to the profound lessons that both school and soccer provide. My journey may be busy, but it’s immensely rewarding.
