A Dream in Paradise

Hear,
the utterance of heat by a summer cricket,
the birdsong carrying a concert ticket;
the joy of first flight—
the wind’s whispered delight;
a chorus too vibrant to rest quietly,
yet never too noisy—a densely sounded serenity.

Observe,
the willow’s sway catching the sun’s gold ray,
the horizon blushing red at the end of day;
a field of lavender under a coat of blended light:
yellow, and crimson covering the pale blue skies
until a soft lush green reflects somewhere in between—
between sky and earth, between summer and spring.

Hear the laughter echo among the stillness of the restless hill,
or watch until you wonder whether the sky’s a sill,
wondering if the sky painted the sea or if the sea enchanted the sky,
for this is the painting in the song that shall never die.
